Found Novelist #3 - David Rosenfelt

· Found Novelists,Fine Book Collecting,David Rosenfelt,First Editions,Andy Carpenter

In November 2013, the same month that I discovered Laura Joh Rowland – found novelist #2, I
went into the Salvation Army Thrift Outlet, in Halifax, for the first time. They did have used
books, of course, and I plucked from the shelves a book called Dog Tags by David Rosenfelt.

The first thing that struck me was the likeness of the German Shepard on the cover to our
Belgian Shepard, Freyja. First edition in fine condition – check!

Here are several of the quotations, re previous titles, on the back of the dust jacket that sold me
on buying the book and will give you a good idea of what Rosenfelt’s series is all about.

“This is a well-plotted legal thriller packed with fistfights, shootings, explosions, murder, and
gritty courtroom drama. New Tricks is a treat for dog lovers, but it’s also a great way for
mystery lovers to spend time with a terrific storyteller.” – USA Today

“If there aren’t any real-life lawyers as entertaining, as witty, and as willing to tilt at windmills as
Andy Carpenter, Edgar-finalist Rosenfelt’s engaging series hero, then there should be.” –
Publishers Weekly

“A taut thriller full of whiplash plot twists and wisecracking dialogue.” – Entertainment Weekly

This book was the eighth book in the series. When I finished reading the book, I made the
following pencil notation in the front endpaper “Read 2014. First of his books - liked it so much
started getting his books in order. Good fun.”

I bought a fine copy of the first book in the series Open and Shut for $50. His books are readily
accessible and not too pricy. They are also available in paperback.

I have read ten of the twenty books in this series and they are all great. He now alternates a
book in this series with stand alone mysteries. Of the latter, I have read four of the nine written
to date. Quite similar in style to the Andy Carpenter series.
